Surfer's Way : Long Beach, Long Island, NY, autism and special needs surfing Camp
Testimonials
There are many ways you can help Surfer’s Way provide a therapeutic surfing experience for children with special needs. All volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation meeting. If you would like to volunteer with Surfer's Way, please register or contact us for more information. Please consider the following ways you can help us:
- Sand Crew
- Water Crew
- Scene Crew
Sand Crew
Members with the Sand crew provide the structure on the beach to ensure a successful outing. Volunteers may be asked to assist with event registration, act as beach buddies, manage the snack or merchandise tables, or join our first aid team if properly qualified.
Water Crew
Members of the Water crew provide the unforgettable experience the children come to the beach for! Volunteers will be in the water with the participants either as a tandem surfer, working with an individual child on a custom-built tandem surfboard, or as part of the water safety team, wading in the surf to ensure the safe transition of children from their beach buddy to their tandem surfer
All surfing volunteers must participate in a specialized orientation conducted by Master Surf Instructor, Elliot Zuckerman.
Scene Crew
Surfer’s Way outings require a great deal of equipment. Volunteers with the Scene Crew will be responsible for setting up canopies, banners, and tables as well as transporting gear such as surfboards, life vests, and merchandise from the parking lot to the beach. The Scene Crew is also responsible for tearing down and cleaning up at the end of the day.
